I am following a book-binding elective that resulted in an empty, hand-bound book that I felt I needed to fill somehow. 2020-11-12 at 14_37_55.png 2020-11-12 at 14_39_14.png
I started painting mini gouache landscapes out of some kind of longing. These are painted from reference images taken during the summer when I spent time at home, made relatively quickly within clear borders of masking tape 2020-11-12 at 14_43_51.png
The ultimate comfort when I'm back living in a city that is one country and two expanses of sea away 2020-11-12 at 14_41_17.png 2020-11-12 at 14_42_07.png 2020-11-12 at 14_43_30.png 2020-11-12 at 14_43_10.png 2020-11-12 at 14_42_50.png 2020-11-12 at 14_41_41.png 2020-11-12 at 14_42_29.png 2020-11-12 at 14_40_54.png 2020-11-12 at 14_44_09.png 2020-11-12 at 14_44_28.png

I had the (problematic) thought that this was not 'Fine Art' enough, simply painting these images. So I thought about cutting a little piece out of each of the paintings (also with the concept of a window in mind), so that one the first page the viewer would see an entirely fictional landscape. 2020-11-12 at 14_45_57.png

I made a little sketch to see how the shapes would work. After speaking with a teacher, I realised that this cutting out might be done more horizontally, to follow the appropriate horizon lines of landscapes 2020-11-12 at 14_45_17.png

This is an ongoing project. Working on filling the whole book with these landscapes first.
